CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) Certification Exam Objectives
The CCNA (640-407) exam will consist of a combination of the following objectives:
1) Identify and describe the functions of each of the seven layers of the OSI reference model.
2) Describe connection-oriented network service and connectionless network service, and identify the key differences between them.
3) Describe data link addresses and network addresses, and identify the key differences between them.
4) Define and describe the function of a MAC address.
5) Define flow control and describe the three basic methods used in networking.
6) Differentiate between the following WAN services: Frame Relay, ISDN/LAPD, HDLC, & PPP.
7) Log into a router in both user and privileged modes.
8) Use the context-sensitive help facility.
9) Use the command history and editing features.
10) Examine router elements (RAM, ROM, CDP, show).
11) Manage configuration files from the privileged exec mode.
12) Control router passwords, identification, and banner.
13) Identify the main Cisco IOS commands for router startup.
14) Check an initial configuration using the setup command.
15) Copy and manipulate configuration files.
16) List the commands to load Cisco IOS software from: flash memory, a tftp server, or ROM.
17) Prepare to backup, upgrade, and load a backup Cisco IOS software image.
18) List the key internetworking functions of the OSI Network layer and how they are performed in a router.
19) Describe the two parts of network addressing, then identify the parts in specific protocol address examples.
20) List problems that each routing type encounters when dealing with topology changes and describe techniques to reduce the number of these problems.
21) Explain the services of separate and integrated multiprotocol routing.
22) Describe the different classes of IP addresses [and subnetting].
23) Configure IP addresses.
24) Verify IP addresses.
25) Prepare the initial configuration of your router and enable IP.
26) Add the RIP routing protocol to your configuration.
27) Add the IGRP routing protocol to your configuration.
28) List the required IPX address and encapsulation type.
29) Enable the Novell IPX protocol and configure interfaces.

Simple Multiprotocol Lab
Objective
Our goal is to successfully configure our new Cisco routers. The network
diagram has all the protocols, networks and addresses listed on it.
This network will have IP, IPX, Appletalk RTMP/EIGRP, IP IGRP, IPX
RIP/EIGRP, and an IP Extended access-list. See the Scenario (below) for full
details.
Audience
This exercise is geared toward those people working toward their CCNA
certification, and those who have little or no router experience.
Getting started
Print out the network diagram; review the scenario, adding the missing
information.
Required equipment
2 routers with 1 serial and one ethernet interface
1 DTE cable
1 DCE cable
Or one DCE/DTE cross over cable
And 1 Auxiliary/Console Port Cable Kit (Part no. ACS-2500ASYN), or
equivalent.
Scenario
Physical layer
Physical layer - Establish a 64KB serial connection between R1 and R2, using
the default encapsulation type (HDLC).
* You will need one DTE and DCE cable, or a back to back cable
designed for this purpose. The serial interface connected to your DCE cable will
need a clock rate command issued to get this working. Here is an example.

Use 24 bit networks for all IP interfaces. This means you will use 255.255.255.0
as your network mask.
IP Routing
Configure IGRP routing on all of your router interfaces.
Appletalk Routing
Enable RTMP appletalk routing on all interfaces, using phase 2 extended
networks.
Replace RTMP routing with EIGRP over the serial connection.
IPX Routing
Enable IPX RIP on all LAN interfaces and IPX EIGRP across the WAN.
IP Security and Traffic Filtering
Using an extended access-list, restrict traffic between all the hosts on LAN1 to
the Internet Server to only WWW, SMTP, and POP3. Apply this access-list to
R1/S0.
IPX SAP filter
Using an IPX SAP access-list, deny all printer advertisements originating on
LAN2.
Step by step instructions
Connecting to your router
First off you ll need to connect your PC to the router. The default console
settings are 9600, N, 8, 1.
Setup utility
Turn the router on. You will start getting information on your screen that
looks like this. We will enter as much information as possible for R1. This
information is on your network diagram. Defaults are in the brackets [].
